In short

Tooth-colored fillings at Middleton Family Dentistry in Fort Wayne use composite resin shade-matched to your tooth, with no silver and no mercury; we have not placed amalgam in over a decade. For larger restorations we use biomimetic techniques that preserve as much tooth structure as possible, and when a tooth is too compromised for a filling, we recommend an onlay or crown instead.

What it is

The
work.

Every filling we place is composite resin matched to your tooth's shade. We have not placed silver amalgam in over a decade: aesthetically they are distracting, and in terms of longevity, modern composites have caught up and in many cases surpassed them.

For larger restorations, we use biomimetic techniques that preserve as much tooth structure as possible, and when a tooth is too compromised for a filling, we say so and recommend an onlay or crown instead.

Answers

Things people
ask first.

  • Not automatically. If the filling is intact with no decay under it, it is fine. We replace them when they fail, when there is decay, or when the patient wants the cosmetic change.
